DIY Wine Cork Bulletin Board Craft

When the party is over, up-cycle and recycle all those leftover corks into decorative mini-bulletin boards for your home or office!

By chance, I found a series of blank wooden boards from a home decor manufacturer. They already had the wall-hanging holes cut into the back of each board, so I bought the whole lot! Each board measures 7-1/4 inches x 5-1/2 inches x 3/4 inch. I hand-sanded each board on the front and along each edge.

Cutting the corks is the hardest part of this project! I wish I had some kind of woodworking tool that could easily slice through the corks. But I used my own hand strength and a sharp craft knife to hand-cut each cork lengthwise. I used a self-healing cutting mat underneath when I did my cutting.

There is literally no way to cut these corks perfectly straight when you are hand-cutting, so don’t waste time worrying about that. You won’t even see crooked cuts once the corks are adhered down. Use a matte gel medium to adhere the corks, such as 3D Matte Gel by Prima Marketing Finnabair.

Before you actually glue down the cork halves, arrange them in a variety of ways on the board to experiment with different looks. Pay attention to the words and designs on the corks themselves.

Don’t worry if a little gel medium “blobs up” along the sides, but do work to keep large glue blobs to a minimum.

Add decorative paper and embellishments

I used two paper collections: Mists of Toolbox Town and also Flower Fiesta (both by Craft O’Clock). I also had fibrous twine and also bling-y ribbon in my craft stash. I used Distress Collage Medium to line around the outside of the corks, and then I pushed the twine and ribbon down with my palette knife. I also had metal accent pieces in my craft stash as well, and I adhered them with more of the 3D Matte Gel.

For a final finishing touch, I added inspirational chipboard quotes.

Want to try this craft, but don’t have the hand-strength?

I hand-cut a series of corks FOR YOU and made kits to make your life easy! ONE board along with 15 half-corks are available for purchase!

When the bulletin boards were finished, I included a pack of decorative push pins when gifting. The Rose Gold decorative push pins from Dollar Tree coordinated with both finished designs.
