Summer Banner Beach Card | Sandpaper Road

Just in time for summer!

Today, I am sharing a quick tutorial for a lovely summer-themed card perfect to use as a “thinking of you” card, a birthday card, or an encouragement/inspirational card. This project was FUN to create!

I used the Stormy Sea Border stamp and the Ocean Frame Sentiments stamp set by Technique Junkies.

Here’s how I created this card…

Stamp the sentiment several times using a different color Distress Oxide ink each time.

Use VersaMark Ink to stamp the Stormy Sea Border and then emboss with Ranger’s White Embossing Powder. At first, I stamped the Stormy Sea Border and embossed with black embossing powder. Once I colored in the water, I liked the look of the white better.

In terms of the water, I tried lots of techniques for a variety of different looks and projects. See all the techniques I tried in my video tutorial:

For this card, I decided to color the water with Shimmering Bliss Sprays by Technique Junkies. I used “Mermaid Lagoon” and “Dolphin Cove”.

I fussy-cut out the spray-inked water image and folded an A2-sized card base. Then, I found the perfect piece of patterned paper for this card. It was a scrap piece of “Summertime Picnic” paper by Craft O’Clock leftover from an earlier project.

Next, I cut out the sentiments individually so that each part of the phrase was in a different color. I trimmed down the patterned paper to 4″ x 5-1/4″. Then, I hand-tore the bottom edge of the fussy-cut water piece and glued some scrap cardboard to the back.

After that, I used my finger to spread a bit of Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive along the bottom of the water piece and poured some “Mudd Puddles Beach Sand” embellishment powder over the glue. I absolutely love adding this fine, gritty “sand” to my beach-themed projects!

To make the sentiment “pop”, I dragged a bit of Pumice Stone Distress Ink across the edges of each of the four cut-out sentiment strips. Before I attached my water piece to the card, I added a bit of the “Mudd Puddles Beach Sand” along the bottom of the card panel. Then, when I adhered the water piece, the dimension from the cardboard along with the sandy bottom created an interesting effect.
