Today, I present for you a Creative Team Project for Craft O’Clock: an exploding box using the “Lovely When You Smile” paper collection. If you have never made an exploding box before, you MUST give it a try. This is my first attempt, and I was so surprised at how EASY it was to create!
Lovely When You Smile
I scored a piece of 30,5 cm x 30,5 cm (12″ x 12″) paper at 10,16 cm (4″) and also at 20,3 cm (8″). Turn the paper and score again at the same measurements. Cut out the 4 scored corners of the paper to save for later, and fold up the 4 remaining flaps to create the box.
Score each of the 4 cut-out corner pieces at 1,27 cm (1/2″) and fold on the score line. Adhere each piece to the ends of the “wings” of the box, creating extended flaps.
Cut 6 pieces of patterned paper measuring 10,8 cm x 10,16 cm (4-1/4″ x 4″). Then, score each piece on the longer edge at 1,27 cm (1/2″) and fold on the score line. Leave a 1,27 cm (1/2″) space on the bottom-edge of the box, and adhere your first “page” to the bottom (flap side facing the center of the box). Continue adhering the pages against the flap of the previous page until all 6 pages are adhered.
Create the lid of the box with a piece of patterned paper cut to 14,61 cm x 14,61 cm (5-3/4″ x 5-3/4″). Score around the whole piece at 1,27 cm (1/2″) and fold on the score lines. Snip a diagonal cut at each of the 4 corners, and then cut out a tiny triangle on the RIGHT SIDE ONLY of all 4 corners. Apply a Mini-Glue Dot to the OUTSIDE of the attached 4 triangle corners, and fold the little triangles inside to create the lid.
Decorate with panels cut from coordinating paper. Panel-piece measurements are as follows:
Lid: 9,53 cm x 9,53 cm (3-3/4″ x 3-3/4″)
Flap: 7,62 cm x 8,89 cm (3″ x 3-1/2″)
Sides of Box: 8,89 cm x 8,89 cm (3-1/2″ x 3-1/2″)
Photos/Pages: 8,26 cm x 8,26 cm (3-1/4″ x 3-1/4″)
